7-a-side Beach Gaelic Football Tournament

You may wish to know that Andy Smith (Amsterdam) and I met with Bob de Jong, an events promoter working on behalf of Scheveningen businesses during the Den Haag tournament on Saturday last. (8 team tournament with 5 Irish teams - very successful).

We agreed to cooperate with him and Tourism Ireland by running a 7-a-side beach gaelic football tournament on April 19 featuring eight teams, (probably four local and four Irish along with an exhibition ladies game). This is the max we cater for this time due to tidal conditions etc.

The event will be run slap bang in the middle of the beach (a popular & busy seaside resort/destination near Den Haag) during a "Taste of Ireland" festival along the promenade. See http://www.scheveningen.info/en/ for pictures etc. The promoters will bulldoze level a 100 x 50 metre area (80 x 40 pitch) and rope it off, mark lines with chalk and provide staff to do crowd control etc. Local clubs will provide umpires etc. We will also have some football clinics for kids etc. The promoters will provide changing facilities and refreshments free of charge. They will also provide a PA system for match commentary etc.

Bob runs about 30 events a year in Scheveningen e.g. last Saturday he had 5,000 people attend the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs http://happysmurfday.com/fr/en/euro_tour/scheveningen/city !!! If this is successful, we can increase the event to have 3/4 pitches next time around and invite lots of Irish teams etc.
